Grow Food, Not Landfills.

Since Compost Nashville’s inception in 2014, we’ve been on a mission to divert as much compostable material as we can away from landfills and give finished compost back to the local community.

Diverting food scraps and BPI compostables away from landfills

More than 10 MILLION pounds diverted from landfill!

At each pick up, we weigh the amount of material we collect for each of our composters to see in real time. Rather than letting all that material go to waste and occupy space in rapidly filling landfills, we transform it into nutrient-rich compost. This compost serves various purposes, such as supporting farmers, stabilizing riverbanks, safeguarding road shoulders, and more.

Prevent carbon dioxide emissions by composting

More than 25,000 tons of CO2e prevented from entering the atmosphere

According to EPA’s WARM 2.0 tool, it would take 63,689 trees (that’s more than 100 acres of forest) 10 years to absorb the amount of greenhouse gas that we’ve been able to prevent due to our diversion efforts. Meaning those trees can focus on absorbing other sources of CO2e emissions.

We donate compost to local farms and gardens

400+ cubic yards of compost donated

Annually, we contribute nutrient-rich compost to support local community gardens, schools, and farms, ensuring the ongoing production of wholesome food in Middle Tennessee. Among our donation recipients are Bells Bend Farm, Brooklyn Heights Community Garden, Farm in the City, The Haven, Montessori East, The Nashville Food Project, No. 9 Farms, Old School Farm, Plant the Seed, Six Boots Growers' Collective, The Store Community Garden, Village at Glencliff, and Waverly Belmont.

We monitor our fleet to make sure we remain carbon negative

Carbon Negative Fleet

Each year we calculate our miles driven totals compared to the tons of CO2e we prevent from entering the atmosphere to ensure we are curbing our impact on the planet, not making it worse.

Since 2014, Our impact has been a collaborative effort:

Households
We’ve collected compostable material from houses all over middle TN and we truly believe we have the best residential customers. Want to join our community of local composters?
