Why Compost?

Be green and be more eco-friendly

Many people love the saying, “Compost Happens.” But there’s more to it than that. Food waste left to rot in a landfill produces methane gas, not compost. This methane gas plays a key role in the depletion of our ozone layer and global warming. When you compost, you reduce methane production— which lessens your environmental impact – and produces usable, natural plant fertilizer.

More than just apple cores and carrot tops

We partner with The Compost Company, the only licensed processing facility in Tennessee, to ensure your waste is properly composted and once again becomes life-nourishing soil for our planet. In addition to fruits and veggies, these guys accept compostable take-out containers, compostable “plastics,” paper-based products, soiled paper towels/napkins, waxed paper, and cardboard. They even accept meat and dairy products. You might be surprised at what you can compost!

Close the food loop

We take your food scraps, turn them into soil, and give you finished compost in return. We deliver your earned compost straight to your doorstep for use in your garden. Don’t have a garden? No worries. Compost Nashville donates compost to a local farm, community garden, or organization in need of compost. So you can feel good knowing your scraps are growing food, not landfills.
