How long do I need to be a member before I am eligible for compost returns?
You become eligible to receive finished compost once you have been a customer for 3 months or more. We send out an email a month before compost deliveries begin to confirm whether you would like your compost delivered to your home or if you would prefer us to donate your compost to one of our designated community farms or gardens.
How much finished compost will I receive once I am eligible for compost returns?
Currently, customers receive one cubic foot of premium screened compost with the option to get a second cubic foot for an additional $5. This is enough compost amend one or two standard (4’x8’) raised garden beds. Our bi-annual deliveries occur in the Spring and Fall to coincide with ideal planting conditions. We are working on a system for the future where the amount of compost a customer earns will be based on the amount of material collected from them.
What types of homes does Compost Nashville service?
Compost Nashville provides service to all types of residences, including controlled access homes and apartment complexes. We do ask that you include your access code in your address at sign up, or send us an email with any additional information.
I am not a customer, but I’d like to request a one-time pickup with Compost Nashville.
We do not have a system in place to accept single bulk pickup requests from residential homes at this time, and do not currently have our own facility where we can accept compost drop-offs. We are willing to provide service for large events (i.e. weddings, festivals, work events, etc.) pending discourse and a sufficient planning window.
Can I purchase compost from Compost Nashville?
We do not sell compost, but our friends at The Compost Company do! You can find them here: www.compostcompany.com.
How do I use my earned compost?
Contrary to what you may think, you do not need to use compost at the same time as planting. Compost is a nutrient-dense fertilizer. You can simply take a handful of compost and sprinkle it around each plant even after they are planted. The nutrients will seep down into the ground and nourish the plant!
Is it possible to tour Compost Nashville’s facility?
We do not currently have our own facility. We take all of the material we collect to a local processing facility in Ashland City. We hope to open our own facility in the future, and will be happy to host tours at that time.
