I have an item that is not listed on my refrigerator magnet. How do I find out if it goes in my compost bucket?
Please be sure to reach out to us for confirmation if you are unsure whether an item belongs in your compost bin. Compost systems are not universal in all aspects, and we may need to consult with our compost specialist to know if your item, or parts of your item, are suitable for our system’s unique capacity.

How do I reduce the odor coming from my compost container?
• Be sure to add plenty of paper waste to your bin (paper towels, napkins, etc)
• If you don’t already, keep your container inside in the air conditioning
• Occasionally sprinkle a little baking soda into your bin to neutralize odor

My container is damaged or has gone missing! How do I get a new one?
Email us and we will be happy to deliver you a new container at your next pickup. Until you receive your new container, feel free to gather your compost materials in another receptacle, such as a paper grocery sack.

One container is not enough for me! What do I do with my extra compost material?
We are only able to take material that fits in your container. This has to do with the collection systems we have in place, as well as the cost of processing materials. We can deliver you an additional container for only $5 per month. All you have to do is send us an email to let us know!

Where do I keep my compost bucket between pick up days?
We recommend customers keep their container in their home and not outside, especially during the summer months. Keeping the container in an air conditioned home will significantly reduce any potential smell and avoid accelerating the process of decomposition. Our containers fit easily under most kitchen sinks, but you are welcome to keep the container anywhere you like.

Where do I place my bucket on pickup day?
When pickup day comes around, we ask that your bucket be placed outside and in a location easily visible from the street between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm. If your pickup requires any special instructions (i.e. a gate code, an obscure location, etc.), please email us so we can make note of this. We also ask that you notify us if any change has been made in the bucket’s usual location, otherwise our driver may assume you simply forgot to set it out!

I don’t need pickup this week! What do I do?
Easy! Send us a text or email to let us know you will not be needing pickup. Please keep in mind we do not prorate our service for an absence of less than 3 consecutive weeks.

It appears my container was not picked up today. What should I do?
If your container was in its normal pickup location between the hours of 8 am and 6 pm on your pickup day and you have confirmed your bucket is still full, please reach out to us via email and we will be sure to collect your compost within 1 business day.

I forgot to set out my container today. What should I do?
• If your container isn’t full, you might be able to make it another week no problem.
• If your container is full, you might try collecting the coming week’s compostable waste in a different receptacle. A lot of customers have used a brown paper grocery sack for this and had success!
• If you have freezer space, you could store the older material there to keep it from getting unpleasantly smelly.

My pickup falls on a holiday. Should I expect a change in schedule?
While it is subject to change, we do not adjust our pickup schedule for any major holidays aside from Thanksgiving and Christmas. Upon any change to your regularly scheduled pickup, you will receive notification via email.

There are severe weather conditions. Will this affect my pickup?
It is possible that severe weather conditions will inhibit our ability to do our jobs safely. Upon any change to your regularly scheduled pickup, you will receive notification via email.

Does Compost Nashville have a drop-off location?
We do not currently have a location where people can drop off compost. We hope to have a location where people can bring us material in the future.
